Structural Biology Interest Group

Welcome to the homepage for the MSU Structural Biology Interest Group (SBIG)! This page contains information about our current meeting schedule and locations. Everyone is welcome at the meetings, but if you would like to receive emails, or if you would like to be included in the presentation schedule, please contact Dr. Fitzkee at nfitzkee @ chemistry.msstate.edu (remove spaces).

Currently, SBIG meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month in the chemistry conference room, Hand Lab 1135 (click here for a map). Occasionally, we meet elsewhere, so please double-check the announcements below for more details.

December SBIG, now 12/17

Because of finals week, the December SBIG meeting has been moved to 12/17. The location and time will remain the same as our usual this semester - 12 PM in Hand Lab 3324. An update with speakers and titles will be posted closer to the meeting date, but please adjust your calendar in the meantime. To celebrate the end of the semester, we will have pizza at this meeting.

SBIG Meeting - 11/12

This week at SBIG we're back to a more typical schedule, with two graduate student speakers. The presentations are listed below:

  • Chinthaka Ratnaweera (Gwaltney Lab) - Chinthaka's presentation is entitled "'Theoretical methods of calculation of entropy and their problems in producing accurate values."
  • Yue Zhang (Fitzkee Lab) - Yue will speak about a molecular biology technique called "Golden Gate Cloning."

The meeting will occur at 12 pm on Wednesday, November 12, in the Chemistry Department third floor classroom (Hand Lab 3324). There's no pizza this week, so remember to pack a lunch. Undergraduates are welcome, and please invite anyone you think may be interested.

SBIG Meeting - 10/5 (Free Pizza)

This Wednesday at SBIG we'll have a presentation from Dr. Ed Lewis from the Department of Chemistry. His presentation will be on the chemical basis for entropy-enthalpy compensation in biological systems. It should be an interesting talk, and I hope you can make it.

The meeting will occur at 12 pm on Wednesday, October 8, in the Chemistry Department conference room (Hand Lab 1135). We'll provide free pizza and drinks; feel free to invite anyone who may be interested - undergraduates are welcome.

Location Update: Because of a conflict in scheduling, the SBIG meeting has been moved to the third floor classroom (Hand Lab 3324). This room is directly across from the elevator on the top floor of Hand Lab. There will be signs posted in case you forget.
