Structural Biology Interest Group

Welcome to the homepage for the MSU Structural Biology Interest Group (SBIG)! This page contains information about our current meeting schedule and locations. Everyone is welcome at the meetings, but if you would like to receive emails, or if you would like to be included in the presentation schedule, please contact Dr. Fitzkee at nfitzkee @ chemistry.msstate.edu (remove spaces).

Currently, SBIG meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month in the chemistry conference room, Hand Lab 1135 (click here for a map). Occasionally, we meet elsewhere, so please double-check the announcements below for more details.

SBIG Meeting - 5/10/2013

Come celebrate the beginning of summer with some structural biology! The Structural Biology Interest Group meets this Friday at noon in the Chemistry Conference Room (Hand Lab 1135). The presenters will be Yue Zhang (Fitzkee Lab) and Amy Martin (Emerson Lab). Yue will present on his research "A structural model for unfolded proteins from RDCs." Amy will present a review of the uses of X-Ray absorption spectroscopy in structural biology. She will be talking about this paper:

Koningsberger, D.C., et al. (2000) "XAFS spectroscopy: fundamental principles and data analysis." Topics in Catalysis. 10(3-4): 143. (link)

Remember to pack your lunch, and I hope to see you there!

SBIG Meeting - 4/12/2013

The Structural Biology Interest Group is meeting this Friday at noon in the Chemistry Conference Room (Hand Lab 1135). The presenters will be Kate Henderson (Emerson Lab) and Hawa Gyamfi (Fitzkee Lab). Hawa will be presenting a journal club based on the following paper:

Schutkowski, et. al. "Role of Phosphorylation in Determining the Backbone Dynamics of the Serine/Threonine-Proline Motif and Pin1 Substrate Recognition." (link)

See you there!

SBIG Meeting - 3/8/2013

This is just a reminder that the Structural Biology Interest Group is meeting this Friday at noon in the Chemistry Conference Room (Hand Lab 1135). The presentations are:

  • David Wilson (Emerson Lab): "Enzyme Stability and Reactivity in Non-Aqueous Media"
  • Dinesh Yadav (Fitzkee Lab): "TROSY-selected ZZ-exchange experiment for characterizing slow chemical exchange in large proteins"

Dinesh's presentation will be based on the following article:

SBIG Meeting - 2/8/2013

This week for SBIG, we'll talk about the NMR capabilities we have at MSU. Dr. Fitzkee will give a presentation on what NMR can tell you about molecular behavior, and whether it can be applied to your system. We will focus on advancements in NMR during the past 5-10 years. The talk should be non-technical, and scientists from other fields are encouraged to attend.

In addition, we'll be picking speakers for the March and April meetings of SBIG. If you have some interesting research to talk about, or an article from the literature that you'd like to present, please consider volunteering.

The Structural Biology & Biophysics Interest Group (SBIG) meets at noon on the second Friday of each month in the Chemistry conference room (Hand Lab room 1135). For a map, please click here.
