Structural Biology Interest Group

Welcome to the homepage for the MSU Structural Biology Interest Group (SBIG)! This page contains information about our current meeting schedule and locations. Everyone is welcome at the meetings, but if you would like to receive emails, or if you would like to be included in the presentation schedule, please contact Dr. Fitzkee at nfitzkee @ chemistry.msstate.edu (remove spaces).

Currently, SBIG meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month in the chemistry conference room, Hand Lab 1135 (click here for a map). Occasionally, we meet elsewhere, so please double-check the announcements below for more details.

SBIG Meeting - 1/7/2013

Welcome back! After a brief hiatus, the Structural Biology and Biophysics Interest Group will resume at 12:00 PM this Friday, January 11, 2013. We're meeting in the chemistry conference room, Hand Lab 1135.

The first speaker will be Charles Nettles (Zhang Lab), who will give a talk entitled, "Modification of Protein Fluorescence by Gold Nanoparticles (AuNPs): Inner Filteration, Surface Enhancement, or Fluorescence Quenching." The second speaker is Vu Le (Lewis Lab). He will speak about the influence of the flanking duplex regions on the stability of G-quadruplex conformations.

As always, grad students are encouraged to attend, and don't forget to pack your lunch!

December SBIG Cancelled

The holidays are upon us, and the next scheduled SBIG meeting conflicts with a Chemistry reception for the graduate students. Thus, the December meeting has been cancelled, and we'll meet again in January. See you then!

SBIG Meeting - 11/7/2012

The next meeting of the Structural Biology and Biophysics Interest Group is at 12:00 PM this Friday, November 9, 2012. We'll be meeting in the chemistry conference room, Hand Lab 1135.

The presenter this week is Dr. Job Lopez, a PI in the Biology Department. He'll be speaking about the structural biology aspects of his research program. Job isn't planning to take the entire time, so this week's meeting may run a little short. If you haven't had the opportunity to attend yet, it may be the perfect chance to come and see what SBIG is all about.

As always, grad students are encouraged to attend, and don't forget to pack your lunch!

SBIG Meeting - 10/12/2012 (FREE PIZZA)

The MSU Structural Biology and Biophysics Interest Group meets this Friday, October 12, at 12:00 pm in the Chemistry Department Conference Room, Hand Lab Room 1135. This week we'll have FREE PIZZA, so if you can, please email me so I know how many pizzas to order (nfitzkee at chemistry.msstate.edu). If you forget to email me, don't worry! Please come anyway, and feel free to share this email with anyone who might be interested in structural biology!

This week's speakers are He Song and Whitney Simmons, both from the Emerson Lab (Chemistry). Song's talk is titled "Revisiting zinc coordination in Human Carbonic Anhydrase II," and Whitney will speak on structural rearrangements in the PrnB heme protein.
