Structural Biology Interest Group

Welcome to the homepage for the MSU Structural Biology Interest Group (SBIG)! This page contains information about our current meeting schedule and locations. Everyone is welcome at the meetings, but if you would like to receive emails, or if you would like to be included in the presentation schedule, please contact Dr. Fitzkee at nfitzkee @ chemistry.msstate.edu (remove spaces).

Currently, SBIG meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month in the chemistry conference room, Hand Lab 1135 (click here for a map). Occasionally, we meet elsewhere, so please double-check the announcements below for more details.

SBIG Meeting - 3/19/2014 (Free Pizza)

The Structural Biology Interest Group will meet this Wednesday, March 19, at noon in the Chemistry Conference Room (Hand Lab 1135). Our speakers will be:

  • Dr. Keun-Seok Seo - A student from Dr. Seo's lab (CVM) will give a brief presentation on their new protein expression system and how they are using it to study the function of challenging proteins.

  • Dr. Saphala Dhital - Saphala will present an introduction to flow cytometry and its applications. Saphala holds a Ph.D. Pharmaceutical Biology from the University of Tokyo.

This month we'll be providing free pizza, so come hungry.

SBIG Meeting Update

MSU will be closed on Wednesday, so we will not have SBIG tomorrow. This month's speakers will be pushed back to next month, and next month's scheduled speakers will move to April.

SBIG Meeting - 2/12

The Structural Biology Interest Group will meet this Wednesday, February 12, at noon in the Chemistry Conference Room (Hand Lab 1135). Our speakers will be:

  • Kate Henderson - Kate will give a presentation on her graduate research, entitled "Thermodynamics of metal binding in TauD and Dke1: a comparison of the 2-His 1-carboxylate and 3-His facial triad in non-heme iron(II) enzymes." Kate is a graduate student in the Chemistry Department in the Emerson lab.

  • Dr. Saphala Dhital - Saphala will present an introduction to flow cytometry and its applications. Saphala holds a Ph.D. Pharmaceutical Biology from the University of Tokyo.

SBIG Meeting - 1/8 (Free Pizza)

Welcome back! SBIG will hold its first meeting of the year on January 8 at 12:00 pm in the Chemistry Conference Room (Hand Lab 1135; usual time, usual place). Since it's the first meeting of the year, we'll have free pizza to welcome everyone back. Our presentations will be:
